Cherries unchanged for Vitality Stadium clash

AFC Bournemouth AFC Bournemouth

AFC Bournemouth manager Steve Cuss names an unchanged starting line-up for today’s Women’s National League encounter with Portishead Town at Vitality Stadium.

The Cherries host the Somerset outfit on the back of both teams registering emphatic victories in third round qualifying of the Women’s FA Cup a fortnight ago.

Lucy Cooper and Maisy Smith both bagged four-timers as Cuss’s team recorded a convincing 13-2 win over St Austell to set up a home tie with Bridgwater United in the first round.

And Portishead earned a mouthwatering trip to neighbours Bristol Rovers after triumphing 9-1 against United Services of Portsmouth.

Cooper will continue to lead the line alongside Gemma McGuinness, the pair both having plundered 11 goals this season.

Summer signing Alisha Buckingham, who has netted four goals since her move from Southampton, also starts up front.

Captain Gemma Hillier forms a midfield trio with Katie James and Smith, one of the two four-goal heroes from the FA Cup win.

Defenders Olivia Venditto, Helen Bleazard, Amber Treweek and Abby Jones will line up in front of goalkeeper Daniela Kosińska, whose parents have flown from Poland for the game.

The Cherries will be bidding to maintain their 100 per cent winning start in the league having scored 40 goals in their first eight games.

As well as beating United Services of Portsmouth in the FA Cup, Portishead also toppled Bishops Lydeard in the Somerset Senior Cup last month.
