Cuss praises women after cup progression

AFC Bournemouth AFC Bournemouth

AFC Bournemouth women's manager Steve Cuss spoke of his delight after his side progressed to the semi-finals of the League Cup.

The Cherries were 6-0 winners over Oxford City at Verwood Town in rainy conditions, with five different players getting on the scoresheet.

Following the win and clean sheet, Cuss spoke with afcb.co.uk on the following topics...

The performance

"Yeah, I'm really pleased with that - I thought it was one of our best performances of the season.

"They were tough conditions, the pitch was just about holding up with the rain, but we moved the ball really well and created a number of chances today."

The goals

"It was late on that we got those goals. Although we were dominating, at 1-0 you're always worried about the chance of conceding and then going straight to penalties.

"The second goal was crucial and it was a great goal from Abby [Jones] from outside the box, a great strike.

"That opened the floodgates for us then and we took full advantage in the following 15 minutes."

The competition

"We can look forward to the semi-final when it comes up in March and it'll be another big game, which is exactly what we want.

"For now, it's back to the league and hopefully we can continue our good run next week."
