AFC Bournemouth girls in cup action

AFC Bournemouth AFC Bournemouth

A full update from the AFC Bournemouth girls’ teams, who were in cup action over the weekend.

AFC Bournemouth secured their place in the League Cup final on Saturday with an exciting win over AFC Portchester.

The Cherries scored six and kept a clean sheet in a pleasing team performance, which will now see them take on Pompey in the Community this weekend for silverware.

After conceding three goals in the first half, AFC Bournemouth’s under-14 girls were looking likely to exit the League Cup competition to Portsmouth at the semi-final stage.

The second half started well for the Cherries, as they scored quickly after kick-off through Anisha.

Another goal followed as Georgia’s free-kick found Holly, who saw off her marker and slotted the ball into the corner of the goal.

Despite their best efforts to get back into the game, Portsmouth scored another on the counter-attack and ran out 4-2 winners on the day.

Playing in the Junior Premier League Cup, the under-16s travelled to Portsmouth last weekend for a fixture that they would win 2-0.

From the off, the Cherries attacked as Rhiannon’s long-range strike was well saved and Hannah H. narrowly missed the target when one-on-one.

The visitors made their possession count and went ahead in the 25th minute, with Hannah H. finishing well from the edge of the box.

Going in to the second half, AFC Bournemouth looked to add to their lead as a well-delivered corner from Faith was headed over the bar by Rhiannon, while long-range efforts from Kitty and Be-Be were also saved.

Just after an hour had been played, Emma played through Hannah H., who finished well to double her tally and secure the victory for travelling side.
