Gallery: Cherries impress against Reds

AFC Bournemouth's under-18s impressed against Liverpool on Thursday despite falling to a narrow defeat.

The Cherries faced off with the category one side at Vitality Stadium in the FA Youth Cup with 1084 supporters in attendance.

Alan Connell's men looked more than equal to Liverpool, who are one of the leading academies in the country, and had chances to open the scoring in an end-to-end first half.

Liverpool threatened through Jayden Danns, who eventually broke the deadlock in the 38th minute, capitalising on an unfortunate deflection in the area.

The Cherries came out firing in the second half with Michael Dacosta Gonzalez sparkling on the right flank but were unable to find the equaliser.

Substitute Kareem Ahmed added a second late-on, finishing from close range after Ollie Camis had made a fine save from Lucky Wellity's header.

Finn Tonks headed home in stoppage time to make it a frantic finish but the visitors held on to secure passage to the next round.
