Date set for FA Youth Cup tie with Lions

AFC Bournemouth will host Millwall in the fifth round of the FA Youth Cup on Tuesday 4th February (7pm kick-off).

Alan Connell’s young guns will do battle with the Lions at Vitality Stadium.

The Cherries booked their place in the last 16 by recording a hard-fought 1-0 win over Cardiff City six days ago.

Khavarn Williams netted the only goal to see off the Bluebirds, while Christian Saydee (two), Luke Pardoe and Harvey Bertrand were on target in the 4-3 victory over Barnet in the third round.

The Cherries will be bidding to reach the quarter-finals of the competition for the second season in succession – and only the third time in the club’s history.

Connell’s charges were knocked out by eventual runners-up Manchester City in the last eight in 2018/19, a feat first achieved in 1968/69 when the Cherries lost out in the semi-final to Sunderland.

Millwall are currently five points clear at the top of Professional Development League Group South, the same level as Cardiff who are seventh.

They triumphed 7-0 at Bolton Wanderers in the third round before coming from behind to win 3-1 against Fleetwood Town at the New Den to set up a trip to Dorset.

FA Cup fifth round revised draw (ties to be played by February 8th): Burnley v West Brom, AFC Bournemouth v Millwall, Blackburn Rovers or Charlton Athletic v Oxford United or Preston North End, Arsenal v Brighton & Hove Albion, Manchester City v Fulham, Wigan Athletic v Birmingham City, Chelsea v Wolverhampton Wanderers, Norwich City or Manchester United v Leeds United.
