Midfielder Toure Williams feels belief for both himself and the AFC Bournemouth under-18s are pivotal.
Ahead of this weekend’s trip to Gloucestershire to take on Forest Green Rovers (11am kick-off), the second-year scholar discussed his side’s recent form with afcb.co.uk.
Alan Connell’s team stopped a string of recent defeats with a 4-0 win over Cheltenham Town last Saturday.
Having assisted Baylin Johnson’s opener at Canford Park Arena, Williams explained: “The end goal for the team is to win the league and try to do well in the FA Youth Cup.
“As an individual, I want to get as many assists and goals as possible, and really kick on.
“I got another assist against Cheltenham, which was good, so I have to keep going.
“To do that I need to keep believing in myself and keep believing in what I can do on the pitch.
“If I keep doing that, the assists and goals will keep coming.”
The EFL Youth Alliance three points came following a trio of consecutive defeats over three competitions for the under-18s.
Buoyed by the win, Williams felt belief across the team was just as important as belief on a personal level.
“We have to reflect on the recent games that we’ve lost but we can’t dwell on them too much,” he said.
“If we overthink them, we’ll bring them into the next game. We’ve reflected well on them, we now put it aside and come back stronger.”
Four wins in four games began the under-18s’ campaign, and to spark a similar run of form the young midfielder knows what’s important, answering: “Our togetherness as a team and being a family.
“We get alongside each other when someone might be dwelling on a mistake, and we tell them to put it behind them and keep going.
“We’re all good players and we all believe in one another.”
