This month's blog has been written by footballer reporter, Hojin Ryu, who fell in love with the Cherries back in 2017.
Hi everyone! I’m Hojin Ryu (20) from South Korea and I’ve been working as a football reporter in my country for six years.
Everyone has some very special memories in their lives that they can never forget and I am the same. One of mine was the day I became a Korean Cherry. This was quite an unexpected thing for a fan in Korea at the time. I fell in love with this club when I was just 16 years old, after watching Charlie Daniels’ fantastic goal against Manchester City in 2017.
The fact that so many big clubs struggled to play well against this small club named AFC Bournemouth gave me so much joy because, for me, football is my life. This is the reason why I became a big fan of the club and have introduced them to my Korean friends. I’ve always been proud of myself as a Korean Cherry.
Actually, I think there is a connection between Korea and Bournemouth. Our club has always displayed Korean time on their International Broadcasting Timetable, even though there are other East Asian countries sharing the same time zone with Korea. I published an article about this timetable and more than 200,000 Korean people read it!
My dream has always remained the same – to study the football industry more extensively in England and to work as a marketer and interpreter for Asian and Brazilian players at AFC Bournemouth.
I also want to carry out some projects with our players in order to help children who would like to be footballers but are struggling to hold onto their dreams due to financial difficulties. I really want to be a good influence on many people in the future.
