AFC Bournemouth is proud to have hosted a Women in Sport virtual masterclass as part of the club’s International Women’s Day celebrations.

Five inspirational women within the sports industry gave an special insight to Junior Cherries, speaking about the roles they currently do, how they got to where they are and how those of the younger generation can follow in their footsteps.

The women who shared their stories were from a range of different areas within football, meaning that Junior Cherries could get a taste of the various avenues open to them. Those who partook were:

Kelly Somers - Broadcaster for the BBC, Premier League and Amazon Prime.

Victoria McIntyre - Physiotherapist for AFC Bournemouth, Arsenal and Scotland.

Liz Finney - Operations Director at AFC Bournemouth

Alice Jeans - Club Secretary at AFC Bournemouth

Terri Harvey - AFC Bournemouth Women's Player & Bournemouth University Student

The session consisted of a short interview with each guest, conducted by former women's player and current member of the club's media team, Zoe Rundle, followed by an opportunity for a question-and-answer session with each guest facilitated by Steve Cuss, head of the club’s Community Sports Trust.

Following the event, Cuss spoke about its success to afcb.co.uk and reiterated what a worthwhile afternoon it was.

“The ‘In the Game’ Masterclass was a fantastic opportunity for the girls within the Junior Cherries to hear from the inspirational past and present women associated with AFC Bournemouth.

“All five guests had different roles within the game, shared their journeys and experiences, and provided a great insight for those involved.

“The question-and-answer session further provided the motivation and inspired the young girls present, as they continue to plan their own careers.”

Before the afternoon concluded, there was still time for club chairman, Jeff Mostyn, to say his thanks to the panel as well as Bournemouth University, who support the club’s women and girls’ teams and partnered the event.

“I was enthralled listening to these remarkable success stories,” he said.

“I can’t tell you how proud I am as chairman of this football club that we have enabled and supported our guest speakers to achieve their respective goals.

“It’s been a privilege being on this call, listening to what these great individuals have achieved through hard work.”
