Junior Cherries were invited to enjoy Wareham’s Big Dig and were challenged to write up a report of their day.
The winning entry was submitted by Liam Sharp from St. Peter’s Primary School, with his account of a fantastic afternoon earning a place on the afcb.co.uk website.
I went to a ‘excavation dig’ of a medieval site near Wareham.

Everyone was really friendly and told us lots about the trenches the students had dug.
I learnt about how people made salt in medieval times. I saw the medieval salt kilns and the troughs that they put sea water in to evaporate.
I also learnt how they produced salt and used it to keep their foods fresh. The most interesting fact I was told was that sometimes Roman generals paid their solders in salt rather than money.
It was really interesting and educational - a great afternoon out.
