AFC Bournemouth can confirm that Jonathan Woodgate will leave the club when his contract expires on Wednesday (30th June).

Woodgate arrived at Vitality Stadium on a short-term deal in February, initially as a first team coach before being appointed interim manager until the end of the season following the departure of Jason Tindall.

The former Real Madrid defender and England international oversaw 13 wins from his 24 fixtures in all competitions, leading the Cherries to the Championship play-offs and the FA Cup quarter-final.

“I cannot thank Jonathan enough for the job he has done over the past four-and-a-half months,” said AFC Bournemouth chief executive Neill Blake.

“He came into the club at a difficult moment, was asked to take charge of the team very soon after arriving and did so with great maturity, providing the stability we needed at such a crucial time.

“Jonathan is a man of real integrity, whose passion for the game shines through, and it has been a pleasure to have had him as an AFC Bournemouth employee, even for a short time. I know we will keep in touch and he is always welcome back to Vitality Stadium.

“I am sure this experience will stand him in good stead for the next step on his managerial journey and Jonathan leaves the club a stronger place for the impact he has had on all the players and staff.”

First team coach Joe Jordan has also left AFC Bournemouth following the expiry of his contract at the end of May, and the club would like to place on records its thanks for Joe’s efforts since arriving in February.

“Joe’s experience and huge wealth of knowledge, both as a player and coach, was exactly what was needed to complement Jonathan in the dug out and on the training pitch,” continued Neill Blake.

“We wish him well and look forward to welcoming him back to Vitality Stadium in the near future.”
