Wilson within whisker of winner

Callum Wilson came within a VAR decision of scoring a winning goal for England as the Three Lions wrapped up third place in the Nations League.

England eventually came out of a dominant performance against Switzerland with a 6-5 win on penalties, having hit the woodwork four times across the 120 goalless minutes of action in Guimaraes, Portugal.

Winning his third cap, Wilson came off the bench to replace Harry Kane in the 75th minute and thought he'd scored the winner nine minutes later when dispatching the rebound after Dele Alli had hit the crossbar.

However, the celebrations were short lived as VAR disallowed the goal for a pull on a defender by the Cherries man in the build-up.

Elsewhere in the Nations League, there was disappointment for Nathan Ake whose Netherlands outfit lost 1-0 in the final to Portugal.

The defender remained on the bench during the match in Porto, Goncalo Guedes' goal on the hour mark the match winner as the hosts picked up the inaugural Nations League title.

In South America, Jefferson Lerma was also an unused substitute as Colombia won 3-0 away against Peru in a Copa America warm-up friendly.
