Wilson - Setbacks made me stronger

Callum Wilson says he is fully appreciative of his time working with the senior England international setup.

The Cherries frontman was rewarded for an impressive start to the campaign with his maiden call-up to Gareth Southgate’s senior squad for international games against USA and Croatia.

And after his first training session with the Three Lions, Wilson said he felt more than comfortable in his new environment.

"When I walked in I felt like I should be here," Wilson told the media on Tuesday afternoon.

"I felt like my performances this season have justified my selection.

"I play against different players from the squad week-in, week-out, so you get to see them and you have that mutual respect there. But I always felt comfortable coming here."

Wilson had previously suffered two serious knee injuries during his time with Cherries, but he has since fought back and has started the season in impressive form.

With seven goals in 14 appearances, Wilson reflected on his previous injury setbacks, adding: "I've had a few setbacks but they have just made me stronger really.

"It's like anything in life really. If it's worth fighting for then you are going to go have to go through some tough times to get there.

"It makes you appreciate things more so when you get here now you appreciate it a lot more because of what you have done in the past."
