Team news: Smith to miss Swans match

Adam Smith will be missing for Tuesday's game with Swansea after sustaining an ankle injury at the weekend.

Though there is brighter news on the opposite side of defence with Diego Rico available to take on Steve Cooper's side at Vitality Stadium.

Smith needed to be substituted just before the break against Barnsley after being fouled by Mads Andersen, with Jonathan Woodgate detailing the situation on Monday.

"He's going for a scan today," said the head coach. "He won't be fit for tomorrow or the weekend so we'll see how he is after that. Hopefully we'll get a prognosis off the medical team."

Smith was replaced by Jack Stacey against the Tykes, with Woodgate pleased to have such an able player to come in for him down the right flank.

"We've got two really good right-backs at the club," he said. "When Jack played against Burnley in my second game in charge, I thought he was very good, so we have him.

"We're gutted that Smudge isn't available but now it's an opportunity for Jack to come in and play."

The head coach reported no further injury concerns from the match with on Saturday and revealed that while David Brooks remains sidelined, Rico is ready to return.

"Diego's fine, he's been back in training and Brooksy will hopefully, fingers crossed, be back after the international break."

Woodgate also spoke about the progress of Lewis Cook, the midfielder suffering an ACL injury last week and set to spend the coming months on the sidelines as he rehabilitates.

"Lewis will be getting operated on tomorrow so we wish him all the best," reported Woodgate.

"We're gutted for him that he's going through this now but he'll come out of it stronger and faster than he was before. It's a blow for the squad so been it's been difficult for Lewis and for the squad as well."
