Team news: Cup game could influence City selection

Jermain Defoe shakes hands with Eddie Howe on the touchline.

AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe revealed that he has no new injury concerns ahead of the weekend’s Premier League game against Manchester City.

However, the manager has revealed that the Birmingham City game in midweek may change his thinking ahead of the game with lunchtime kick-off with City.

"Simon Francis and Junior Stanislas are both out still," he said in his pre-match press conference.

"The positive thing about the win against Birmingham City is that several players played well.

"They've certainly put themselves in the frame for this game and as a result I'll have to think long about the team I pick."

Howe added on Jermain Defoe: "He picked up a groin strain and as I've said, we have to ensure he's available for the entire season. We don't want to risk him this early.

"We left him on for the full game on Tuesday and he did very well, so he's in contention to start - as are a number of other players."
