Adam Smith has signed a new two-year contract with AFC Bournemouth, extending his time with the club which began over a decade ago.

Smith will be part of the Cherries squad travelling to Spain for a pre-season training camp which begins on Sunday, with a friendly against La Liga side Granada part of the trip.

The full-back first joined the Cherries on loan from Tottenham in September 2010, playing 42 games in the 2010/11 campaign, scoring the first goal of his career and appearing as the side lost on penalties to Huddersfield in the League One play-off semi-finals.

Rejoining on a permanent basis in 2014, Smith quickly became an important member of the Cherries’ Championship winning side, before retaining his key place in the squad across five years in the Premier League.

In the top flight the 30-year-old made the third most appearances for the club (143) in the division as well as scoring five goals.

After committing his future to the club, Smith will have the opportunity to add to his total of 284 appearances for the Cherries, a further eight league showings would move him into the top 20 all-time for the club.

Speaking to afcb.co.uk, Smith said: "I spoke with my agent and my family about what was best for me, it was a massive decision because I’ve been here a long time.

"The thing that did it for me was Scott Parker and Matt Wells who I know from Spurs, Rob Burch as well. It just shows how much the owner and the club want to get back in the Premier League.

"Actions speak louder than words and that told me the whole story."

AFC Bournemouth chief executive Neill Blake said: “I’m delighted that Adam has committed his future to the club.

“He is proven at the highest level and has been a key part of the squad throughout the past seven-and-a-half years.

“Adam shares the same ambitions as everyone here; to help us get back to the Premier League.

“His experience, attitude and ability will be incredibly valuable to us over the next two seasons.”
