Silver-lined successful season for AFC Bournemouth Ladies

It was a cup-winning, promotion-securing season for AFC Bournemouth Ladies as they celebrated another positive campaign.

A second successive promotion means the Cherries will play in the Women’s Southern Region next season, with the push to go up founded on a stunning spell of form at the tail-end of the campaign.

The team won 14 and drew two of their closing 18 matches and two Cherries players, Kerry Shiers and Chloe Tape, were amongst the league’s top five goalscorers as they both netted 24 goals.

The icing on top of the Cherries’ cake came in the Hampshire Women’s Invitation Cup, where the side claimed the silverware with a 1-0 win over Eastleigh Ladies.

Steve Davies, first-team manager of AFC Bournemouth Ladies, spoke about the achievements of his side.

“We had a presentation evening recently and I said to the players that they were all a pleasure to have worked with over the last season,” explained Davies.

“It took a month or so at the start of the season for the girls to gel, but from the end of October through hard work they have become a strong team.

“When it came to the cup final we were confident as our run of form was very good, even though the scoreline was just 1-0. The team were determined and never looked like losing.

“Now we have the challenge of a higher division next season, I’ve coached there before and I think it’s a challenge we’ll be up for and will be looking forward to taking on.”
