Senesi signs for the Cherries

AFC Bournemouth have sealed the signing of centre-back Marcos Senesi from Feyenoord for an undisclosed fee.

The highly-rated 25-year-old has signed a four-year deal at Vitality Stadium. He becomes the Cherries’ fifth signing of the summer and second capture from Europe, following goalkeeper Neto’s recent arrival from Barcelona.

A physical and technically gifted defender, Senesi made his international debut for Argentina in a friendly win over Estonia in June.

He progressed through the ranks at Argentinian side San Lorenzo, making 72 appearances before moving to Dutch side Feyenoord.

Noted for his no-nonsense style, he was affectionately nicknamed ‘El Gladiador’ by supporters at the Feyenoord Stadium.

Senesi made 116 appearances for the Rotterdam-based club, featuring regularly in European competition.

He was part of the side that reached the European Conference League final last season, playing 90 minutes in a defeat to Roma.

With eight goals and seven assists in three seasons, Senesi has shown an eye for goal and was awarded the Eredivisie Goal of the Season for 2020/21 for an audacious overhead kick against ADO Den Haag.

Neill Blake, AFC Bournemouth Chief Executive, told afcb.co.uk: “This is a huge signing for us and Marcos brings significant pedigree to our squad. There was, inevitably, a lot of interest in him so for him to choose to come here is a clear sign of our appeal as a football club. Bringing in a current Argentina international with experience in European competitions is another indication of the club’s ambition and we are all looking forward to seeing Marcos in an AFC Bournemouth shirt.”
