Rodrigo Riquelme came off the bench to earn AFC Bournemouth a deserved share of the spoils from an entertaining 1-1 draw with Derby County.

Riquelme, on a season-long loan from Atletico Madrid, bagged his first senior goal with a composed finish nine minutes from time.

The 20-year-old met countryman Diego Rico’s deep cross at the far post and cushioned a delightful right-foot shot past Derby goalkeeper David Marshall.

Derby had looked on course to maintain their curse on the Cherries and end their unbeaten start in the Championship after Graham Shinnie drew first blood in the 14th minute.

But the hosts were rewarded for their attacking intent in the second half when Riquelme popped up to extend the run to nine games.

Jason Tindall’s squad rotation saw Diego Rico, Philip Billing and Arnaut Danjuma restored to the Cherries starting line-up.

The trio were all on the bench for the midweek win over Bristol City, with Danjuma coming on to score the only goal.

Lloyd Kelly, Dan Gosling and Joshua King made way and were named among the Cherries substitutes, as was David Brooks.

Playmaker Brooks returned having missed the past six games having picked up an injury while on international duty with Wales.

Wayne Rooney, who has been self-isolating, was back in the Rams line-up, one of three changes following their midweek draw with Cardiff.

Referee Rob Jones reached for his notebook after just 86 seconds, booking Jason Knight for a late tackle on Adam Smith.

Derby had a couple of early efforts, Martyn Waghorn curling a left-foot shot over the crossbar and Steve Cook’s timely block preventing Graham Shinnie’s shot from troubling Asmir Begovic.

Rooney’s dangerous free-kick into the 18-yard box was met by Matthew Clarke, the defender’s powerful header clearing the crossbar.

Billing’s foul on Knight earned the Cherries midfielder a booking and gave Derby a free-kick in a central position on the edge of the box which Rooney took.

And although his strike was charged down by Dom Solanke in the wall, the Cherries were unable to clear the loose ball and Shinnie lofted it past Begovic to open the scoring.

Danjuma’s appeal for a penalty fell on deaf ears before Rico followed Knight and Billing into the referee’s notebook for a foul on Nathan Byrne.

Waghorn’s deflected effort was saved low down by Begovic before Jack Stacey’s shot into the ground bounced into the arms of David Marshall.

Stanislas hurt his left knee in a block tackle with Clarke and was able to continue following a spell of treatment, as was Lawrence after taking a whack in the face.

Solanke worked hard to win possession from Mike Te Wierik but fired wide after linking with Smith to create an opening three minutes before the break.

And on the stroke of half-time, only a superb reaction save from Marshall prevented Solanke from levelling following an excellent team move.

The Scotland international tipped Solanke’s close-range effort over the crossbar after Stanislas’s neat cutback had found the Cherries striker.

King replaced Stanislas at the break, the Norway international taking up a position up front for the second half.

Although the Cherries enjoyed the lion’s share of possession, chances were at a premium early in the second period.

Rooney’s afternoon came to an end in the 61st minute, the former England and Manchester United star replaced by Duane Holmes.

Danjuma went close to levelling twice in the space of a minute, firstly seeing his right-foot shot come back off the post.

Then, after creating another opportunity, the Holland international saw his stinging shot pushed past the post by Marshall.

To boost the Cherries’ attempts to find an equaliser, Tindall sacrificed defender Stacey for attacker Brooks in the 69th minute before Rodrigo Riquelme replaced Billing seven minutes later.

Begovic got down smartly at his near post to beat away Knight’s low drive before Brooks’s free-kick from a promising position was charged down by the Derby wall.

Riquelme applied a majestic finish to Rico’s deep cross as the Cherries were rewarded for their second-half pressure.

His side-footed, cushioned strike beat Marshall before nestling in the bottom corner nine minutes from time.

An heroic clearance from Steve Cook kept out Lee Buchanan’s venomous drive, the Cherries skipper taking the ball full in the face and requiring a spell of treatment.

King almost snatched victory for the hosts late on, only to see his rasping drive flash past the post.
