Rico wins September Player of the Month

Diego Rico has won the Michael Matthews Player of the Month award for September.

The left-back, who signed for the club from Leganes in the summer of 2018, played every minute of the Cherries’ three Premier League fixtures last month.

During those matches, he bagged two assists, the first coming for Nathan Ake’s header against Southampton in what was the side’s first ever win at St Mary’s, while the second was in the 3-1 win over Everton at Vitality Stadium, as Callum Wilson latched onto his through ball.

As a result of the performances, Rico scoops the award with 38% of the vote, beating off tough competition from Wilson (27%), Joshua King (21%) and Ake (14%).

With over, 1,300 people having their say, Rico will pick up the award from representatives of Michael Matthews Jewellers ahead of the next home game with Norwich City.
