Ryan Fredericks became AFC Bournemouth’s first signing following the club’s return to the Premier League for the 2022/23 season.
The defender, who operates predominantly as a right-back, joined the Cherries having spent four years playing in the top flight with West Ham.
Fredericks signed for the Hammers following a stellar 2017/18 campaign with Fulham when he was named in the PFA Championship team of the season and the Championship team of the season.
He played a starring role as the Cottagers returned to the Premier League after winning the Championship play-off final against Aston Villa.
During his three years at Craven Cottage, Fredericks played alongside current Cherries head coach Scott Parker.
Born in Hammersmith, London, Fredericks joined the academy ranks at Tottenham Hotspur and signed his first professional contract in July 2010.
Fredericks made his first start for Spurs in the second leg of a Europa League tie against Hearts in August 2011, debuting alongside Harry Kane.
He had a brief loan spell with Brentford in League One at the start of 2012/13 before again featuring for Spurs in the Europa League against Anzhi in December 2013.
In January 2014, Fredericks joined Millwall on loan, netting his first professional goal on debut in a 1-0 win against Ipswich Town. He made 14 appearances in the Championship for the Lions.
Fredericks gained further experience of the Championship during a loan spell with Middlesbrough in 2014/15 before signing permanently for Bristol City in August 2015.
He played five games for the Robins before joining Fulham on transfer deadline day and soon established himself as a regular at Craven Cottage.
Fredericks helped Fulham reach the Championship play-offs in 2016/17 when they lost to Reading in the semi-finals before featuring prominently when they won promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs in 2017/18.
He made 114 appearances in all competitions for the Cottagers, his exploits earning him a move to the Premier League with West Ham in July 2018.
Fredericks made his top-flight debut for the Hammers in a 4-0 defeat at Liverpool in August 2018 before scoring his first goal for his new club in an 8-0 win over Macclesfield in the Carabao Cup.
He scored his first Premier League goal in a 3-0 victory over Southampton in May 2019 and was also on target in a 3-0 win against Sheffield United in February 2015.
In February 2021, Fredericks made history when he became the first concussion substitute used in English football, replacing Issa Diop during the Hammers’ defeat by Manchester United in the FA Cup.
Fredericks left the London Stadium following the expiry of his contract in the summer of 2022 having made 77 appearances for the Hammers in all competitions.
On the international front, Fredericks featured for England under-19s in a 3-0 defeat against the Netherlands in Putten in March 2011.
