Highly-rated midfielder Marcus Tavernier became the third summer signing for the Cherries ahead of the 2022/23 Premier League season.

Born in Leeds, Tavernier comes from a strong football family and is the brother of Rangers captain, James Tavernier.

He joined the Middlesbrough academy at under-14 level, becoming a regular for their reserve side.

Tavernier made his professional debut in August 2017, starting in a win over Scunthorpe United in the EFL Cup second round.

He netted his first goal in senior football in the same competition, striking against the Cherries at Dean Court.

His first Championship goal came in a 1-0 win over Sunderland at the Riverside Stadium in November 2017.

In January 2018, he joined MK Dons on a short-term loan deal, turning out eight times but being unable to prevent relegation from League One.

The versatile midfielder, who can also play at left wing-back, became a regular for Middlesbrough in the 2018/19 season, playing 27 games and scoring four goals.

Tavernier continued to show his worth as one of the brightest young talents in the Championship, becoming one of Middlesbrough’s key players.

His best season came in 2021/22, scoring five goals and assisting five more in 48 games.

In total, Tavernier made 155 appearances for Middlesbrough, scoring 18 goals, before completing the move to the Cherries in August 2022 for an undisclosed fee.
