AFC Bournemouth
Dominic Solanke bagged the only goal as AFC Bournemouth wrote in new chapter in the club’s record books after triumphing 1-0 at Stoke City.
Solanke’s ninth goal of the season, which came six minutes into the second half, extended to 13 games the Cherries’ unbeaten start in the Championship.
Scott Parker’s team also kept a sixth successive away clean sheet in the league, passing the club’s previous best which was set by Ken Bird in 1947/48 and matched by Ryan Allsop in 2012/13.
Mark Travers, who made one crucial save from a Mario Vrancic free-kick late on, kept five of the clean sheets, while Orjan Nyland was between the sticks for a 0-0 draw at Hull.
The Cherries have now gone nine hours and 42 minutes since conceding on the road in the league, Nottingham Forest's Scott McKenna the only home player to score against Parker's team in the Championship.
Victory also saw the Cherries open a six-point gap at the top and an eight-point lead over third-placed Fulham, who host Cardiff on Wednesday, and fourth-placed Coventry, who visit Preston.
The Cherries became the first team this season to stop Stoke scoring at the bet365 Stadium, the Potters having netted in all eight games in all competitions.
Jefferson Lerma returned to the starting line-up as head coach Scott Parker made one change following Saturday’s impressive 2-0 victory at Bristol City.
Lerma, who was on international duty with Colombia last week and came off the bench at Ashton Gate, replaced Jamal Lowe, the frontman named among the Cherries substitutes.
Ben Pearson returned to the bench having been forced to sit out the Bristol City victory due to a one-match suspension for five bookings.
Former Cherries striker Sam Surridge was named on the bench for Stoke, the Potters making two changes following their 2-1 defeat at Sheffield United on Saturday.
Midfielders Jordan Thompson and Sam Clucas came in for Romaine Sawyers and Mario Vrancic with Tyrese Campbell back in the squad for the first time in ten months due to injury.
Stoke made a flying start with Jacob Brown scuffing a shot past the post after just 17 seconds before Gavin Kilkenny was booked for tugging Nick Powell’s shirt.
Adam Davies was forced to help Ryan Christie’s corner over the crossbar, the Potters goalkeeper then smothering Jack Stacey’s low drive.
A swift move down the right created an opening for Phil Billing but the midfielder poked his shot past the post after Christie had released Stacey to centre.
Replays suggested Joe Allen may have caught Billing as he prepared to pull the trigger but referee Dean Whitestone was unmoved
Powell was replaced by Vrancic midway through the first half, Stoke’s leading goalscorer having turned his ankle during an earlier challenge with Lerma.
Mark Travers raced off his line to beat Brown to a through ball, the Cherries goalkeeper also pouching Clucas’s deflected cross.
Billing’s shot was blocked after Stacey had teed up him 20 yards from goal before Kilkenny’s follow-up effort was comfortably saved by Davies.
Lerma’s speculative strike flew high over the crossbar early in the second half before the visitors made the breakthrough six minutes after the break.
Stoke squandered possession and Anthony seized on the ball before feeding Christie whose shot from the edge of the box was spilled by Davies.
And Solanke made the most of the goalkeeper’s error, darting into the six-yard box to poke home the loose ball for his ninth goal of the season.
The lead was almost cancelled out just four minutes later when Thompson got on the end of Josh Tymon’s cross and saw his effort strike the inside of Travers’s right-hand post.
Zemura followed Kilkenny into referee Whitestone’s notebook for a foul on Thompson before Surridge replaced Clucas on the hour.
Whitestone turned down a penalty appeal after Zemura had gone to ground under a challenge by Ben Wilmot, the Stoke defender appearing to take none of the ball.
Stacey’s volley from 20 yards deflected off Thompson for a corner before Campbell received a rousing reception when he came off the bench for Brown in the 70th minute.
Solanke was played in by Zemura, the striker cleverly turning Harry Souttar before seeing his right-foot shot come crashing back off the crossbar in the 73rd minute.
Stoke fashioned their first attempt on target in the 80th minute when Vrancic’s cross richocheted off Surridge and landed invitingly for Campbell.
But after the substitute had taken aim with his left foot, he fired straight at Travers who comfortably made the save in the middle of the goal.
Campbell dragged another shot past the post after being sent free by Surridge’s pass before Stoke had a penalty appeal correctly waved away, the ball striking Billing on the leg rather than the arm.
Travers dived full length to his right to keep out Vrancic’s free-kick deep in added time before Sky’s man of the match Christie was replaced by Lowe.
