AFC Bournemouth head coach Gary O’Neil has finalised his backroom staff with Neil Moss returning to Vitality Stadium as Head of Goalkeeping.

Moss, who worked with the Cherries’ goalkeepers between 2009 and 2021, will be joined by Tommy Elphick, Shaun Cooper and Tim Jenkins.

Former club captains Elphick and Cooper assisted O’Neil during his spell as interim head coach and have been elevated to the first team from the development squad.

Elphick, who captained the Cherries to the Premier League in 2015, and Cooper, skipper during the Greatest Escape season of 2008/09, both become first-team coaches.

Earlier this week, O’Neil confirmed that Tim Jenkins had accepted a coaching role on his backroom staff, the pair having worked together in the Liverpool academy.

During his first spell at Vitality Stadium, Moss was responsible for nurturing the likes of Aaron Ramsdale and Mark Travers, both of whom went on to be capped by their respective countries.

He also worked with experienced internationals Artur Boruc, Asmir Begovic and David James as well as helping to hone the talents of Shwan Jalal and Ryan Allsop.

Voted by supporters as the club’s all-time number one, Moss started his career as an apprentice with the Cherries before turning professional in January 1993.

Having made his debut as a 17-year-old, Moss joined Southampton in December 1995 before rejoining the Cherries on loan in September 2002.

He made a total of 223 appearances for the club and starred in the Division Three play-off final against Lincoln City at the Millennium Stadium.

A lifelong Cherries fan, Moss hung up his boots in 2008 and has recently been working for the Football Association as a national goalkeeper coach.

Jenkins began his career with Prozone in 2001, working as an analyst at Derby County under Jim Smith, John Gregory and George Burley.

Having gained his coaching badges, he became junior academy manager at Hartpury College in Gloucestershire, guiding their under-18s to four national titles.

Jenkins joined Liverpool in 2012, initially as academy head of analysis, predominantly working with the under-23s.

He worked alongside O’Neil after the Cherries head coach had been appointed assistant manager to Liverpool under-23s in August 2020.

Details of who will fill the academy roles vacated by Elphick and Cooper will be announced in due course.
