Moore, Mepham and Brooks celebrate historic Wales achievement

Kieffer Moore, Chris Mepham and David Brooks celebrated World Cup qualification in a historic afternoon for Welsh football.

Moore played the entire 90 minutes as Wales secured their place in the biggest tournament in football for the first time since 1958, and only the second time in the nation’s history.

Mepham watched on from the bench while Brooks joined the Wales camp for the occasion, having completed his recovery from Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Gareth Bale’s free kick was turned into his own goal by Andriy Yarmolenko for the only goal of the game, with Wales’s Wayne Hennessey making a number of important saves.

Moore was a threat throughout and almost set up Juventus’s Aaron Ramsey, who side-footed wide from close range following Moore’s lay off.

The achievement marks an incredible two months for Moore, who recovered from a broken foot to make a key contribution as the Cherries won promotion to the Premier League, scoring the winning goal against Nottingham Forest.

Similarly for Brooks, who announced he’d been given the all-clear on the day that the Cherries secured promotion, it presented another celebration for the 24-year-old, who is considered an important part of the Wales set-up.
