Mings targeting return to action

Tyrone Mings is targeting a return to first-team action before the end of the current season.

The defender had made just three senior appearances this term before his season was curtailed by a back problem.

But after a success rehabilitation programme, part of which was spent working closely with a team of dedicated specialists in Qatar, the big defender now hopes to play a part in the side’s final games of the Premier League season.

“Hopefully it won’t be too long until I’m back out there,” Mings explained to afcbTV. “It has been a frustrating period, but I’m hoping to be back before the end of the season.

“I’m keen to play in some under-21 fixtures in the upcoming period, with the hope of being back in full training with the group in early April.

“I went out to Qatar as part of my rehab programme. I was working with some back specialists to try and get over the problem that I had.

“It was a small stress fracture in my back, so I had to go out there and work with the specialists. They knew exactly how to handle the situation and working alongside the club I now feel I’m in a good place.

“My work out there mainly consisted of running, weights and a few football-based exercises. It was all about getting me back moving and getting me back feeling like a footballer again.

“All that work has gone well, and for me it’s now about getting myself back in that main group.”
