Media view: Bosnian insight on new signing Asmir Begovic

Written by Iain Pearce

Bosnian football journalist Sasa Ibrulj gives his views after the Cherries agreed to sign Asmir Begovic.

Begovic will officially link up with Bournemouth on July 1st, after agreeing to the move from Premier League champions Chelsea.

afcb.co.uk: How has AFC Bournemouth's signing of Begovic been greeted in Bosnia?

SI: "The transfer is a relief for Bosnians because they want to see their first-choice 'keeper getting as much action as possible.

"Choosing a team that is mid-table and with a solid base makes people feel good. The reactions have been positive because we want to see him playing.

"The Bosnians think this will be a positive move for Asmir as well and could give him a boost before the national team play their crucial qualifier with Greece next week."

afcb.co.uk: What do Bosnians know about the Cherries, and will this signing boost the club's profile?

SI: "The Premier League is very popular for Bosnians and having Bournemouth in the league for two years has made them quite well known in the country.

"People know details about every team but obviously now Bournemouth will have much bigger support in the country.

"In Bosnia people traditionally support the clubs where their players play so you can expect a huge amount of Bosnians supporting Bournemouth in the time to come."

afcb.co.uk: How do you think Begovic will get on with the Cherries?

SI: "I think he'll love it there. Asmir has shown that he has the quality to play at the top level and he has huge experience on and off the pitch.

"Even at Chelsea he proved that, even though he didn't have much playing time in the second year; but in the first year he showed he was a player to be relied on.

"I think both Asmir and Bournemouth will see this as a positive move and it will improve both of them a lot in the next season."

"Good luck!!" Commented Sasa after the news broke on Tuesday.
