AFC Bournemouth head to Old Trafford to face Manchester United for their final game of 2018.

Manchester United v AFC Bournemouth

Sunday 30th January,
Premier League, 4.30pm
Old Trafford

With the departure of Jose Mourinho, Manchester United fans have clamoured for a return to the attacking intent showed by previous sides in the club's history.

So far, with the appointment of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as caretaker manager, it seems as though the forward thrust has returned to the Old Trafford side.

With eight goals scored in the first two games against Cardiff City and Huddersfield Town, the Red Devils seem to have the shackles off going forward.

The impressive wins and the manner of them have alerted the Premier League to United’s rejuvenation, in particular their key man, Paul Pogba. The French World Cup winner has gained plenty of plaudits for his recent form, having been involved in four goals in his two appearances under Solskjaer.

Last time out

Manchester United 3-1 Huddersfield Town

‘A professional victory’ is what the media hailed United’s home win over Huddersfield Town as.

Solskjaer spoke frequently about the traditions of the club and the 'United Way' before the game, and that was on show as midfielder Nemanja Matic gave them a first-half lead in a dominant display.

Pogba then added two goals of his own in the second-half, with the midfielder given plenty of license to drive forward. He had more touches on the ball (117), more shots (5) and more passes (90) than any other player on the pitch.

The crowd were right behind the new regime and the atmosphere should be excellent in the stadium on Sunday.

2018/19 top scorer

Anthony Martial (Nine goals in all competitions)

The manager

A very successful player for Manchester United, the Norwegian scored 126 goals in 366 appearances for United between 1996 and 2007.

After his playing career, he started in coaching in 2008 becoming United’s reserve-team manager, before becoming the manager at FC Molde in Norway.
He returned to the club two weeks ago and has already been praised for his calm demeanour, much like he was on the pitch as a player.

Solskjaer is looking to become only the third ever Red Devils manager to win his first three league matches in charge of the club, after Jose Mourinho and Sir Matt Busby.

Key stats

The two sides have played each other seven times in the Premier League, with the Cherries having won on one occasion, back in 2015/16 at Vitality Stadium. United have won five of those with a draw being shared at Old Trafford in 2016/17.

Ryan Fraser has more assists this season in the Premier League than Alexis Sanchez, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard combined.
