Match Pack: Chelsea v AFC Bournemouth

Written by Zoe Rundle

AFC Bournemouth play their second away game of the season against Chelsea this weekend.

Chelsea v AFC Bournemouth
Saturday 1st September, 3pm
Premier League
Stamford Bridge

With both sides unbeaten so far this season, Saturday's encounter at Stamford Bridge looks to be an exciting one. Cherries fans will have fond memories of the fixture last season, where goals from Callum Wilson, Junior Stanislas and Nathan Ake gave Eddie Howe's side a 3-0 win.

Chelsea will be looking to continue their 100% top flight record this season, with new boss Maurizio Sarri hoping to build upon the Blues' fifth place finish in the Premier League last season.

Last time out

Newcastle United 1-2 Chelsea

Last weekend saw Chelsea make the trip to St James' Park, as Newcastle were looking to build upon their start to the campaign. A 76th minute penalty from Eden Hazard looked to have won it for the Blues, before Joselu pulled one back for the hosts just five minutes later.

However, it wasn't to be for the Magpies, as a DeAndre Yedlin own goal four minutes from time wrapped up the three points for Chelsea, who had enjoyed 81% possession across the 90 minutes.

Chelsea: Kepa, Azpilicueta, Rudiger, David Luiz, Alonso, Kante, Jorginho, Kovacic (Barkley 79), Pedro (Willian 69), Morata (Giroud 65), Hazard.

2017/18 top scorer: Eden Hazard (17 goals)

Team news

Chelsea have almost a fully fit squad heading into the weekend's fixture, having picked up few knocks in their opening games.

Cesc Fabregas remains the only doubt, missing the whole of the season so far due to a leg injury sustained against former club Arsenal in pre-season.

The manager

Maurizio Sarri is not just a new face at Chelsea, but a new face to the Premier League, taking the reigns in England for the first time in his 28-year managerial career.

The Italian is best known for his three seasons at Napoli, where he was just four points off guiding the side to a Serie A title in the 2017/18 season.

So far, he's had a seamless start to life in London, with Chelsea winning their opening three top flight fixtures against Huddersfield, Arsenal and Newcastle.

Top stat

At St James' Park last weekend, Blues midfielder Jorginho completed more passes (158) than the whole of the Newcastle United team combined.
