This weekend, the Cherries travel to Turf Moor for their third away game of the season. Sean Dyche’s Burnley side await and will be desperate for points, currently sitting bottom of the Premier League.

The Cherries will be hoping to replicate last year’s result at Turf Moor, winning 2-1 on the final day of the season. Goals from Joshua King and Callum Wilson, the latter in the final minute, ensured Eddie Howe’s side finished the season on a high after going behind to a Chris Wood goal.

Burnley have been struggling for form this season and currently sit at the foot of the Premier League table. Their only point this campaign came on the opening day against Southampton and they’ll be looking to focus their efforts on the league following their exit from Europe.

A trip to Wolves was always a tricky test for Burnley, but one that Sean Dyche would have expected to get something out of. A Raul Jimenez goal, from Matt Doherty’s cross, half an hour from time turned out to be the winner for the hosts, who are enjoying life back in the Premier League.

The Clarets have now conceded ten goals in their opening five league games this season; it took them 13 matches to concede their tenth goal of 2017-18.

Team news

Sean Dyche revealed in his pre-match press conference that summer signing Ben Gibson has undergone a hernia operation and will therefore be out of the weekend’s game.

Both Steven Defour and Robbie Brady played in a behind-closed-doors friendly on Thursday, but won’t play a part in Saturday’s fixture as they continue to work towards a return to fitness.

The manager

Sean Dyche led Burnley back to the Premier League in 2016, after his Clarets side won the Championship. In their first season back, they finished 16th and six points above the drop, but surprised everyone last year with a seventh-place finish and a place in the Europa League.

Though failing to make it into the group stage, Dyche has won many supporters through his defensive approach and ability to close out games.

Both Sean Dyche and Eddie Howe are the longest-serving managers in the Premier League, with the Clarets boss taking over from Howe back in 2013.
