In the third round FA Cup tie, Eddie Howe’s side will be hoping for a similar outcome as when the two sides met in the Premier League in December, a double from David Brooks proving pivotal as the hosts ran out 2-0 winners at Dean Court.

VAR will also be used in the south-coast clash, having been utilised once before at Vitality Stadium for the cup game with Norwich City.

Last time out

West Ham 2-2 Brighton

Brighton have been on a good run heading into the weekend’s game, beating Everton and drawing with Arsenal. However, a trip to the London Stadium marked the first game of the year for Hughton’s side.

Goals from Dale Stephens and Shane Duffy put the visitors 2-0 up with half an hour to go, but a double from Marko Arnautovic, with two in two minutes, levelled the scores.

With neither side able to find a winner, the points were shared and Brighton remained in 13th in the Premier League table.

Brighton: Button, Montoya, Duffy, Dunk, Bernardo (Bong 73), March, Gross, Stephens, Propper, Locadia, Murray (Andone 82).

2018/19 top scorer: Glenn Murray (8 goals).

The manager

Chris Hughton is loved by fans at Brighton, guiding them to Premier League promotion back in 2017. Since then, he has successfully kept the Seagulls in the top flight and even won the Premier League manager of the month award for February earlier in the year.

The 60-year-old certainly possesses plenty of experience, having taken charge of Newcastle United, Birmingham City and Norwich City.

Team news

Jose Izquierdo is likely to be unavailable, after coming off during Brighton’s win over Crystal Palace in December and not featuring since. Additionally, Mat Ryan is away on international duty, representing Australia in the Asia Cup.

As for the Cherries, Simon Francis and Lewis Cook remain sidelined, both with ACL injuries, while Adam Smith will also miss out.

Key stats

Hughton has never beaten Bournemouth in his managerial career, losing four and drawing once (all while in charge of Brighton).
