Match gallery: Cherries give City a run for their money

AFC Bournemouth turned in an impressive display and can count themselves unfortunate not to have ended their Manchester City hoodoo.

Since the Cherries won promotion to the Premier League in 2015, City are the only team they have failed to take a point off having now faced them 14 times.

Andoni Iraola’s team gave the reigning champions a scare at Vitality Stadium and went toe to toe with them for long periods.

Phil Foden bagged the only goal of the game in the 24th minute, the England international steering the ball home from close range after Neto had saved Erling Haaland’s shot.

The Cherries dominated for large parts of the second half but were thwarted in their attempts to grab an equaliser.

City goalkeeper Ederson clawed a Dom Solanke header off the line and Cherries substitute Enes Ünal went close to nodding a dramatic late leveller.
