Marseille to visit Vitality Stadium

Written by Matt Joyce

AFC Bournemouth will host last season's Europa League finalists Marseille in a friendly match at Vitality Stadium.

The French side, who boasted an impressive 2017/18 campaign, will make the trip to the south coast on Saturday 4th August with kick-off at 3pm.

The fixture is the final friendly before the start of the new Premier League season, with the Cherries already confirming away trips to Bristol City and Nottingham Forest, a home game with Real Betis and games against Sevilla and Levante as part of the club’s pre-season training camp in Spain.

Les Olympiens finished fourth in Ligue 1 under manager Rudi Garcia and also embarked on a memorable Europa League run, reaching the final where they were beaten by Atletico Madrid.

Some recognisable faces in Marseille’s squad include former West Ham United star Dimitri Payet and ex-Crystal Palace goalkeeper Steve Mandanda.

Florient Thauvin, who used to play for Newcastle United, was one of Europe's most lethal marksmen in 2017/18 - bagging 25 goals in all competitions for the French side.

Ticket details for the fixture will be announced in due course.
