David Brooks, Rodrigo Riquelme and Joshua King were all on target as AFC Bournemouth secured a 4-1 win over Oldham Athletic in the Emirates FA Cup.

The Latics, who have the best away record in SkyBet League Two, gave the Cherries some problems in the first-half, but a ruthless attacking display in the second-half was enough for Jason Tindall’s side to be in the hat for Monday’s fourth round draw.

Tindall made changes for the third-round tie against the Latics, with the welcome return of Jack Stacey and Cameron Carter-Vickers from injury – Carter-Vickers’ first start since joining on loan from Tottenham Hotspur.

Academy graduates Jordan Zemura and Gavin Kilkenny were also handed starts, along with a full debut for goalkeeper Will Dennis.

And the debutant was forced into early action when he made a superb save to repel Carl Piergianni’s header from ten-yards out after ten minutes.

Despite plenty of possession for the hosts, the Latics stood firm and gave Tindall’s side a huge scare ten minutes before half-time, when Jordan Barnett’s finessed effort right the left-hand side curled against the post and away to safety.

But that possession paid off in the 42nd minute and the Cherries had the breakthrough.

A crisp pass by Kilkenny found King on the edge of the box, and his lay off was perfect for Brooks to hammer a strike from 20-yards out which was central, but deflected off Harry Clarke and into the net.

But right on the stroke of half-time, Harry Kewell’s side were level when a foul by Dennis allowed the lively Bahamboula to smash a penalty into the right corner.

That was the last action of the first-half and Tindall shuffled his pack at the break, bringing on Diego Rico to replace Gosling and introducing a shift in formation to 3-5-2.

And the rewards were quick in coming when four minutes into the second-half Brooks found the overlapping Stacey – now wearing the captain’s armband – and the full-back played it across to Riquelme to finish in the area to restore the advantage.

The width the change in formation was extremely effective in presenting the Cherries with more opportunities, and substitute Rico almost provided Brooks with another goal after the hour mark but his shot in the area – which looked certain to go in – deflected narrowly wide.

Zemura then almost had his first goal for the club moments later, with the wing-back smashing a low effort in the box which was well saved by Lawlor.

Brooks was then replaced by Jaidon Anthony and Stacey – who looked impressive on his return from injury, was replaced on the pitch and as skipper by Adam Smith.

And Smith had an assist to his name five minutes later, when he whipped in a perfect cross from the right-hand side to find the unmarked King at the back post.

The Norwegian rose highest to plant a firm header into the net to secure his first goal of the campaign.

And his second came with five minutes to play when Rico’s low cutback was brilliantly dummied by substitute Anthony, and that awareness from the youngster presented King with plenty of space to smash a low effort right into the bottom corner from inside the area.

The result puts the Cherries into the hat for Monday's draw which will take place ahead of the final third round tie at 7.10pm.
