AFC Bournemouth head coach Andoni Iraola expressed his delight at the arrivals of highly-rated duo Max Aarons and Alex Scott.

Aarons and Scott on Thursday both completed permanent moves to the Cherries, taking to six the number of new signings in this transfer window.

Defender Aarons, a two-time Championship winner with former club Norwich, played 70 games in the Premier League for the Canaries.

The 23-year-old, who helped England win the European Under-21 Championship last month, could feature when the Cherries host West Ham in their Premier League opener on Saturday.

Midfielder Scott was named EFL Championship young player of the season following his eye-catching exploits for Bristol City in 2022/23.

The 19-year-old, an England under-20 international, was also crowned City’s player and young player of the season but the start of his Cherries career will be delayed by an injury sustained while at Ashton Gate.

Discussing the pair at his pre-match press conference ahead of the visit of West Ham, Iraola said: “For his age, Max has already played a good number of Premier League games. He has international experience and played for his national team this summer.

“He will help us. He is young but not as young as some of our other signings and he has experience.

“Alex is another great signing for the club and is a great kid also. The first impressions when we spoke to him were really good.

“Unfortunately, he will be out for the start of the season, probably the first couple of months, and he will have to take these weeks to settle in, to know more about the team, his teammates and to prepare to help us further in the season.

“With his age and the season he has just had in the Championship, he is a player who can help us a lot.”
