Internationals in action across Europe

Six of AFC Bournemouth's internationals were in action on Friday 6th September.

Aaron Ramsdale earned the number one shirt for the England under-21s as they travelled to Turkey for their opening Euro U21 qualifier.

A brace from Leeds United loaner Eddie Nketiah and a strike from Arsenal’s Reiss Nelson ensured a 3-2 win in an eventful game.

Nathan Ake came on for the final nine minutes of a highly impressive Netherlands win over Germany.

The defender was brought on for Ryan Babel in a thrilling contest which ended 4-2 to the Dutch, who blew Germany away in the second half.

The win means that Ronald Koeman’s side have put themselves in a very strong position to top Group C and qualify for Euro 2020.

Elsewhere, Ryan Fraser was hugely influential in Scotland’s goal, but the hosts were beaten 2-1 by Russia.

Fraser’s cross from the left caused problems which allowed Aston Villa’s John McGinn to score the opener at Hampden Park.

The defeat for Scotland though could be a big one in terms of them qualifying for Euro 2020 though, they are now in fifth place and six points adrift of the Russians with five games to play.

Elsewhere, Wales secured a valuable 2-1 win over Azerbaijan at Cardiff City Stadium, with Chris Mepham playing 90 minutes and Harry Wilson 63 in the victory.

An own goal and a late Gareth Bale strike means Wales are up to third in Group E - level on six points with fourth-placed Slovakia.

And finally, Gavin Kilkenny played 65 minutes of the Republic of Ireland under-21s 1-0 win over Armenia - his debut for the under-21s side.

Tottenham Hotspur’s Troy Parrott scored the only goal of the game in a comfortable victory for Stephen Kelly’s side.
