Eddie Howe has shared his post-match thoughts following this afternoon’s 2-2 draw against Wigan in the FA Cup.

The Cherries twice came from behind to force a replay back up north, as goals from Lys Mousset and Steve Cook ensured that their side remained in the hat.

After the full-time whistle, Howe addressed the media and spoke on the following points…

On the performance…

It was a good game and Wigan, no surprise, are a good team. They started well and we were slow out of the traps. At 2-0 down, it’s always hard to come back so credit to the players on that front.

Conceding early didn’t help the confidence levels nor the feeling in the stadium. We didn’t take our chances to level up, then they scored a deflected free-kick and we’re 2-0 down all of a sudden.

We were better in the second half and we applied more pressure, but we didn’t quite get our rhythm going. We created plenty of chances and should’ve won the game, but we weren’t clinical enough.

On the changes…

I don’t regret making the changes, it was an opportunity to see new players, an opportunity for some to keep their rhythm from the previous games and an opportunity for others to rest.

The changes may have upset the rhythm at first, but given how we train I’d be surprised if players don’t know what I want from them.

At half-time, we made a couple of substitutions, we had a better balance, and it was perhaps a bit more positive from those that came on. As a result, the team had a better look about it.

On the youngsters…  

They’re all good players and I thought Emerson Hyndman did well considering he hasn’t had a lot of football.

Connor Mahoney was unluckily taken off at half-time, he didn’t do anything wrong but I wanted to get Marc Pugh and Jordon Ibe on the pitch so sadly he was sacrificed.

On Wigan’s penalty claim…

I actually thought Toney may have been offside in the build-up. In terms of the actual incident, I’ve seen them given but it’s gone in our favour today.

It was a tough call and not clear cut either way and it was a tough one for the referee and his assistant on this side.

On the replay…

The replay isn’t ideal for us or them, but it is what it is and we want to be in the competition so we have to go and try to win the game.
