AFC Bournemouth
AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe reflected on his side’s first point of the New Year, as the Cherries twice came from behind to secure a 3-3 draw at home to Watford.
A brace from Troy Deeney gave the Hornets a strong lead, but a manic six-minute period late in the first half returned another goal for Watford and three for Bournemouth, with Nathan Ake, Callum Wilson, and Ryan Fraser all getting on the scoresheet.
The Bournemouth boss spoke to the media during his post-match press conference on the following topics…
THE NATURE OF THE GAME…
I don’t know what to think. I feel disappointed that we didn’t win after creating so many chances in the second half. At the same time, we were 2-0 down so I have to be pleased with the spirit and the attitude of the players to come back from that difficult position.
It was a very competitive game and both teams were giving absolutely everything, so for the neutral fan it would have been a great watch, but it was tough to enjoy for the managers. The endeavour given by both sets of players was very high. With the chances we created in the second half, Ben Foster did very well to make a number of key saves.
It was a game where the defences weren’t on top and there was clinical attacking play from both teams. We didn’t quite get one or two situations right defensively, as has been the case in recent weeks.
We’re going through one of those spells where any shot against us seems to go in, which is a horrible thing to have. We’re not under constant pressure but are finding ways to concede when looking comfortable, so that’s certainly something we’ve got to change.
THE STANDOUT PERFORMERS…
Ryan Fraser was a constant menace. His movement was very good, he looked lively and his set-play delivery was spot on. He played an important role in us coming back into the match.
I thought Junior Stanislas was outstanding as well today, doing a valuable job for the team. The way he executed the position, he showed that his technical level is very high and he actually added an attacking threat for us from that deeper position. Defensively, he was faultless, so I’m very pleased with him.
THE SUPPORT FOR CHARLIE DANIELS…
I’m very pleased with all of the supporters reactions to Charlie’s situation. They rallied round him and there was a great ovation for him at the end. They’re emotional moments for any player, and to feel the warmth and support of the fans is a huge thing.
