Howe reflects on Cardiff win

Eddie Howe has reflected on his side's 2-0 win over Cardiff on the opening day of the 2018/19 Premier League season.

Ryan Fraser and Callum Wilson were on target, as Howe's side took all three points.

Following the game, Howe touched upon the following topics.

The performance

I was very pleased with today’s performance, it was a tough game and I have a lot of respect for Cardiff because they gave everything.

It was a really competitive game and I thought that we controlled the first half without opening them up as much as we wanted to. In the end, two moments of quality won us the game.

As much as we’re happy today, we have to remain level-headed. We want to grow stronger over the course of the season.

The team

We’ve worked on our team all pre-season and the players playing today found out yesterday. We went with the same as Marseille because the performance was so good.

I think its all about the team, we have to make sure every unit in the team functions and I think today it did.

Individual performances

David Brooks is young, talented and you saw a glimpse of his potential today. I was really happy with his contribution overall.

Callum [Wilson] will have individual targets but I was thrilled with him and Joshua King today, I thought they operated well.

With Ryan Fraser, he did well for us last year and as the season got going, he really came into is own. He’s a real talent and he can take confidence from this game. He’s a big player for us.

Cardiff City

I think Cardiff City can achieve anything they want to achieve this year. They have unique things about them, they have a really good team spirit, you can see that and the supporters will play a huge part for them.

They have a lot going for them, but it’s so early to make any big judgements after just one game.
