Howe on Brighton win and Brooks’ impact

Eddie Howe has spoken to the media following Saturday afternoon’s 2-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion at Vitality Stadium.

David Brooks opened the scoring with a brilliant left footed strike from distance midway through the first half, before wrapping up the three points on the 77th minute with an incredible headed goal. Asmir Begovic kept the clean sheet intact at the other end, taking Bournemouth back into the Premier League’s top half.

During his post-match press conference, the Bournemouth boss discussed the following points.

BRILLIANT BROOKS

They were two great goals from David. They were totally different from each other but he showed his quality in both moments. We’ve been pleasantly surprised with his progress. We knew we were getting a very technical, intelligent player, but perhaps we didn't know how good he was going to be for the team.

He buys into the team ethic and the defensive component of the game. The tactical understanding of how we play, he has grasped very quickly so full credit to him for that.

Also, the ability to handle the Premier League and not get carried away with early season success and to remain level headed - that's a huge bonus. He's scoring important goals for us and that's a great sign for the team.

THE TEAM PERFORMANCE

Overall, I thought we were a bit nervy in the first half, but in the second half we were a lot better. Before the second goal and before the second half I felt we had control of the match. We got our rhythm back and then our confidence returned.

We were indebted to Asmir Begovic who made some important saves for us in the opening period.

The recent run we've been on has been tough. At 1-0, the game was very much in the balance but the players stood firm and hopefully that sets us up well now for the rest of the Christmas period.
