Howe named Premier League Manager of the Month

Eddie Howe has been named as the Barclays Premier League Manager of the Month for January.

The Cherries started the New Year in impressive form, remaining unbeaten in the league throughout the course of the month.

Draws against Brighton & Hove Albion and West Ham United were accompanied by important victories over Chelsea, 0-3 at Stamford Bridge, and Arsenal, 2-1 at Vitality Stadium.

That run of form saw Howe’s side jump into the top half of the league table and as a result the manager has been recognised by the Premier League.

“It’s been a good month and I'd like to dedicate the award to everyone associated with the football club,” Howe told afcb.co.uk. “The highlight was without doubt the Chelsea game, but I don’t think we should forget about the result against Arsenal.

“It’s not just about the results, but the performances and the manner in which we played.

“We knew January would be a big month for us after the Christmas period. There are always a lot of games at this time of year, but we came through the month well.”

Barclays employee and local Cherries fan Scott Carpenter was on hand to present the award at Vitality Stadium.

It is the second occasion on which Howe has won the Manager of the Month award, after previously claiming the March 2017 gong.

This season Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola had won the previous four awards dating back to September, with Huddersfield Town’s David Wagner the winner in August.
