Manager Eddie Howe says Charlie Daniels will be assessed this week as the club wait to find out the extent of the knee injury he suffered at the weekend.

Daniels missed the end of last season after requiring surgery on his patella, and went down holding his other knee after putting in a cross 37 minutes into the match with Manchester City on Sunday.

The left-back soon left the field on a stretcher, with Howe saying that the experienced defender is still waiting to see how serious the injury is.

“We have no official update yet,” said Howe. “He is seeing someone tomorrow for a scan on his knee and for some analysis of what happened.

“It was the different knee (to last season) and we hope it’s not too serious but we’ll wait and see.

“Football can be a very cruel sport in so many different ways, you have a player who has worked so hard to get back and done everything to get back."

Daniels spoke to afcb.co.uk ahead of last weekend’s match, detailing his difficult start to his year, which included the loss of his father.

He continued: “He’s had such a tough year but now we’ll do everything we can for him to get back and we’ll support him in every way we can.”
