Howe feels draw was fair result

AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe felt a draw was a fair result against Southampton at Vitality Stadium.

In a game of few chances, the Cherries weren’t able to prise open the Saints defence as the unbeaten home run so far this campaign continues.

The boss told the written media in his post-match press conference…

ON THE PERFORMANCE

Well we really didn’t get going and we know we can play better than that.

Southampton did make it difficult for us to get going and we have to look at ourselves, analyse why we didn’t reach those levels.

We are frustrated that in a game of minimal chances, when they came we didn’t take them. But Southampton could probably say the same.

A draw is a fair result.

ON SOUTHAMPTON THWARTING THE CHERRIES’ ATTACK

They played well to stop us, we never had our fluency for whatever reason and we’ll look at those reasons why and go and put it right.

Our attacking play wasn’t without effort though, you do get games like that.

You had Nathan’s header from a set-piece which could have gone in, and that was probably how we would make a breakthrough today, from a set play.

ON THE INTERNATIONAL BREAK

It can unsettle a squad, the difficulty is you lose players and are working with a smaller group, then when the players return, you have a short time to prepare.

But it’s the same for every Premier League club, the difficulty is that after a good run of results you want to keep that feel.

Unfortunately, we weren’t able to do that but we didn’t lose so in the end we’re happy with a point.
