Eddie Howe believes AFC Bournemouth have landed a player of 'huge potential' in new signing David Brooks.

The Cherries completed the capture of the three-cap Wales international on Sunday - their first new arrival of the summer.

And Howe is over the moon to have secured a long-standing target and someone whose creativity can be a real addition to the club’s attacking threat.

“It’s been a bit of a wait to get our first signing and we’ve found it quite a challenging environment this transfer window,” explained the manager.

“But I’m delighted to get David. It’s another talented, young player joining the group.

“He’s a player we have been looking at for a long time, someone we have admired, is technically very good and has huge potential.

“David offers a real creative threat, high technical ability, he is able to play a couple of positions – wide on the right or as a second striker – and has been used in both roles by Sheffield United and Wales.

“He has a good attitude and is a really ambitious lad who wants to get to the top in the game, and we will help him get there.

“He will fit our philosophy in terms of how we want to play and I believe he has a very exciting future. I’m delighted that future will be here at Bournemouth.”

Brooks’ arrival is another young, British player on the Cherries’ books, following in the footsteps of Lewis Cook, Ryan Fraser, Jordon Ibe and Tyrone Mings, to name but a few.

And the manager believes it is the right way for AFC Bournemouth to go about their business.

“It’s a really good model for the club,” he continued.

“I’ve said many times that we aren’t able to bring in the established player who is excelling at this level – they just simply aren’t available within our financial bracket.

“So we take a different direction, the majority of the times, which is to try and bring in young players and develop them.

“We’ve done it before and been successful with it, and hopefully David will be another who falls into that bracket.

“I don’t think anyone has seen the best of David yet – that will still be ahead of him.

“He has been part of a successful Sheffield United team, playing his part in a good season last year.

“We’ve seen enough to suggest that he is a player who could be outstanding at this level in the future if he develops in the right way and is willing to learn and improve.”

He's a player we have been looking at for a long time.
