Harry Wilson has been named AFC Bournemouth's Michael Matthews Player of the Month for August.

The Liverpool loanee made a great start to life with the Cherries by scoring on his Premier League debut against Aston Villa.

The winger then continued his form with one of the club's finest ever Premier League goals against Manchester City at Vitality Stadium.

The free-kick against the champions from 30-yards has almost become a trademark of the youngster's fledgling career to date, with no other player in the entire country scoring more than the 11 he has netted from outside the box since the start of 2018/19.

Speaking about his top flight debut at Villa Park, Wilson told afcbTV: "I was delighted to get the goal on my debut, I felt the touch was good out of my feet and I decided to shoot and caught it sweetly. It took a nick but I'm claiming it!

"I enjoyed it, you train every day for a Saturday or a Sunday and to do it at the top level has always been a goal of mine. I really want to kick on now and keep playing more and more games at this level to keep learning and improving."

In the Twitter poll conducted by the club, the 22-year-old earned a massive 55% of the vote alongside fellow nominees Philip Billing (25%), Aaron Ramsdale (16%) and Adam Smith (4%).

The Welshman is currently on international duty with the Red Dragons as they face Azerbaijan and Belarus.
