Dan Gosling admitted Leicester City’s late leveller was “very tough to take”, even though AFC Bournemouth continued to edge towards Premier League safety on Saturday.
The Cherries played out a 1-1 draw at the King Power Stadium, with Joshua King’s first half penalty cancelled out in the dying seconds of injury-time by a Riyad Mahrez free-kick.
The result against the former top flight champions means it is just one defeat in ten games for AFC Bournemouth, who are six points clear of the relegation zone, but that was little consolation to midfielder Gosling.
“When you come away from home you would always be happy with a point on the road,” he explained.
“But when you concede in the last seconds like that, it’s a killer.
“Any point away should be a good point but in these circumstances right now, it’s very tough to take.
“We missed a couple of opportunities early on and should have been one or two up, but rightly took the lead when we did.
“The first half performance was great, the second half we had a few counter attack opportunities which we should have done better on, and ultimately that’s probably why we weren’t able to hold on for the win.”
One potential turning point came early in the second half when Charlie Daniels appeared to be brought down by Wilfred Ndidi around six yards out.
It looked a strong shout for a second spot-kick of the afternoon but referee Lee Probert was having none of it.
“I asked the question to the referee but he waved it away,” continued Gosling.
“I thought Charlie was goal side and it looked a definite penalty to me. It was disappointing not to get it and maybe when you’re away from home it’s tough to get two in one game, but we have to try to forget about it now and move on.”
Next up for the Cherries is the visit of high-flying Tottenham Hotspur to Vitality Stadium, and Gosling is hoping for another memorable afternoon to go with recent victories over Chelsea and Arsenal.
“We have to look forward to it,” he said. “We’ve had some good results against the big teams, and there’s no bigger game than Tottenham at home.
“We need everyone behind us 100 per cent, we need to defend like that again and hopefully we will be able to get another historic result for this club.”
