Dominic Solanke bagged the only goal of the game as AFC Bournemouth moved back to the top of the Championship thanks to a 1-0 win over QPR on Bank Holiday Monday.

Solanke’s deft first-half header, his 18th goal of another productive season, settled a keenly-fought contest in favour of the visitors at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium.

Victory, the Cherries’ first at the venue since January 1959, ended a run of six games without a win for Scott Parker’s team who were deserved victors in West London.

Solanke and substitute Jaidon Anthony both saw excellent chances go begging as Parker’s team created a number of other presentable opportunities.

Despite their dominance of chances, the Cherries were grateful to Jefferson Lerma for a superb block late on, the Colombian throwing himself in front of Chris Willock’s goalbound shot.

In added time, an ugly melee, sparked when Yoann Barbet wrestled Solanke to the floor, saw four players booked, including QPR substitute Andre Dozzell who had earlier received a yellow card and was subsequently dismissed.
