Phil Billing’s fourth goal of the season saw AFC Bournemouth triumph 1-0 against Cardiff City as Scott Parker’s team claimed pole position in the Championship.
Billing bagged the only goal of the game nine minutes into the second half, his arrow-like strike from 25 yards leaving Bluebirds goalkeeper Dillion Phillips rooted to the spot.
It was the Cherries’ first league win against Cardiff in the city since goals from Mark Stein and Richard Hughes saw them run out 2-1 victors in 2000.
Billing could have added to the visitors’ lead, his thunderous free-kick beaten away by Phillips before the Denmark international fired wide when well placed.
Parker’s team had to dig deep defensively as they came under an aerial attack from the Bluebirds, but they stood firm and deservedly crossed the Severn Bridge with all three points.
