Ryan Christie opened his goal account for AFC Bournemouth as Scott Parker’s team re-established a four-point lead at the Championship summit thanks to a 3-0 win over Cardiff City on Thursday.

Christie set the ball rolling by drawing first blood for the Cherries in the 25th minute, his deflected strike from the edge of the box set up by Dominic Solanke.

The Bluebirds were reduced to ten men on the stroke of half-time when midfielder Leandro Bacuna received a straight red card for a dreadful two-footed lunge on Phil Billing.

And the Cherries took full advantage of their numerical advantage in the second half, with leading marksman Solanke doubling their lead following a neat exchange of passes with Billing.

Parker’s team created a hatful of goalscoring chances and were rewarded for their endeavours with a third goal seven minutes from time.

The tireless Jefferson Lerma took aim after a Christie corner had fallen invitingly for him, his ripsnorter crashing off the underside of the crossbar and striking Cardiff goalkeeper Alex Smithies before crossing the line.
