Gaffer gives update on injured duo

AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has given an update on the condition of Adam Smith and David Brooks.

Defender Smith and frontman Brooks both came off during the second half of the Cherries’ entertaining 0-0 draw with Tottenham tonight.

Smith was hurt when he fell awkwardly following a challenge with Tottenham defender Ben Davies ten minutes after the break.

The former Spurs man received a lengthy spell of treatment, including being given oxygen, before he was stretchered off.

Brooks, who recently returned after recovering from a long-term ankle injury, pulled up midway through the second period and was replaced by Harry Wilson.

Both players will be assessed by the Cherries medical staff over the next few days and Howe will be hoping to have them available to face Leicester on Sunday.

Speaking to afcb.co.uk just minutes after the final whistle had sounded, Howe said of Smith: “He’s a little shaken. He’s got a nasty knock to his cheek but he’s sitting up and he’s okay.”

And of Brooks, he said: “I’m not sure with David. I don’t know whether it was a calf strain or cramp. He was unsure so that’s why we withdrew him.”

Howe’s team earned their first point since the season resumed and almost snatched all three, only for Callum Wilson’s late effort to be ruled out due to a Joshua King handball.

“There was a lot of heart there today, a lot of fight in the team,” said Howe. “For those people who have questioned us that we’ve given up and we’re not really in it in a sense that we don’t believe, I think we answered a few people today and now we have to continue that fight in the last few games.”
