Francis – It wasn’t to be

Simon Francis has shared his thoughts with afcbTV after this evening’s 1-0 defeat against Chelsea at Vitality Stadium.

Eden Hazard’s strike was the difference, as the Belgian netted from Alvaro Morata’s ball just after the half-time interval.

Following the defeat, Francis expressed his views on the game and spoke of how the Cherries can take confidence from the performance.

“Were disappointed in the changing room,” he began.

“We’ve had some really improved performances over the past few week, in particular at Stoke where we got a massive win.

“We would have loved to make it three wins in a week or even get a draw tonight but it wasn’t to be.

“We’ve still come a long way against the top teams though. We’re more resilient and aren’t conceding so many times and I thought that was the story of tonight really.

“I think we were a bit passive off the ball and gave them a lot of possession in the first half and you can’t do that to the top teams, especially when were at home.

“We want to try and be more on the front foot and press them higher. I thought we did that really well in the second half, we certainly created a few more chances but it just wasn’t to be.”

The centre-back also spoke of what it means to captain the side and lead them out against the Premier League champions.

“I take massive pride every single week, whether we win, lose or draw and whether we’re playing a top team or any of the other teams in the Premier League,” Francis continued.

“I have to try and lead by example every single week and I felt good coming back from an injury at the start of the season.

“The team is improving every week and I hope we can go one step further and get some wins over the next few games.”
